First Annual Big Bear Lake Maifest
Celebrates Spring In The Mountains German Style
May 26, 2018

Big Bear Lake, CA — A new German tradition comes to Big Bear Lake on Memorial Day weekend with the first annual Big Bear Lake Maifest (May Fest). Hosted by the Convention Center at Big Bear Lake, home of Southern California’s #1 Oktoberfest. Maifest will feature German music, beer and games; and takes place in Wyatt’s Grill and Saloon.

Maifest is the traditional German celebration of Spring. Dating back to the 18th century, villagers and townspeople would celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of Spring. The Festival, still celebrated in Germany today, includes a raising of the Maibaum (Maypole), dancing, feasting, and enjoying specially brewed Spring beer – Maibock.

Maifest at Wyatt’s will feature the same German fun, infused with a little of the Country good times that is Wyatt’s. The Rippers open the day’s entertainment line-up with country and classic rock. German music by the Kalifornia Krauts takes the stage at 7:00 p.m. As in Germany, Brats, Sauerkraut and Strudel will all be served, as well as Wyatt’s full menu. Wyatt’s offers a full bar and for Maifest will feature a variety of German beers including a Maibock beer and a specially made Maibowle – May Punch.

The day’s activities also includes games and contests for all ages. Little visitors will enjoy a bounce house and arts & crafts. Guests who come dressed in a traditional German costume – Dirndls and Lederhosen – will score a complimentary gift.  Contests will include a German favorite, log sawing. The spring day under the pines, also offers vendors selling a variety of unique and collectible trinkets.

Doors open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26. The fun continues through 11:00 p.m. Admission is FREE for all ages. Maifest at Wyatt’s is located at the Convention Center at Big Bear Lake on the corner of Division Dr. and Big Bear Blvd. For details, log on to  www.bigbearevents.com or call (909) 585-3000.
