43RD ANNUAL BIG BEAR LAKE OKTOBERFEST
ADDS ADDITIONAL DAYS & EXPANDS ENTERTAINMENT
Weekends, Sept. 14 through October 26, 2013
Big Bear Lake, CA — The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest celebrates 43 years of German style family fun and good times this year. Rated Southern California’s #1 Oktoberfest, this Fall’s festival offers more entertainment with expanded Bier Gartens. Guests this year will also have the opportunity to enjoy two additional evenings of Oktoberfest charm.
New this year, the Spaten Bier Garten will offer live entertainment every Saturday evening on the Spaten Stage, additional seating, and a full line-up of Spaten beer. Bands performing include local bands such as the Skeleton Key and top California bands such as the Doo Wah Riders.
Main stage entertainment line-up will once again feature the Express, Southern California’s premiere German band and returning, by popular demand, the NEW Mainfloesser Band from Germany. The NEW Mainfloesser performed at the Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest in 2010 and 2011 to a roaring success. A variety of dance groups make return appearances including the Cripple Creek Cloggers, Danube-Swabain Dancers and, a guest favorite, Big Bear’s own Polka Tots.
Oktoberfest gets “unplugged” on two additional Friday nights this year. Fans will be treated to
an inside look into the history and early beginnings of Oktoberfest while enjoying a night of top German food and beers. The five-course German dinner will be paired with a variety of German
beers and spirits. Entertainment includes story telling by the Über-Burgermeister and founder of Oktoberfest, Hans Bandows, as well as several of Oktoberfest’s key personalities. Oktoberfest Unplugged packages include a five course German pairing dinner, entertainment, a commemorative one-liter stein and an intimate evening of fun. As an added bonus, Saturday Oktoberfest event admission will also be included.
One of the country’s most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations, Big Bear’s Oktoberfest offers non stop entertainment, dancing and zany German antics exclusive to Big Bear’s festival for seven weekends, September 14 through October 26. Other Oktoberfest festivities include carnival games, bounce houses, Samson – the mechanical bull, and the Buden Strasse (Ave. of the Booths) which provides a variety of arts and crafts vendors. Festival-goers can participate in a variety of free contests including Beer Stein Holding, Log Sawing, Pretzel Eating, the Safe Slam (non-alcoholic beer) beer drinking contest and our own version of Beer Pong.
The annual Fall celebration kicks off with American’s Hero weekend on Saturday, September 14 offering free admission for all past and present military and their immediate families, as well as firefighters and law enforcement. Opening festivities include a special tribute to all those that put their lives on the line protecting America’s freedoms. The festival closes on Saturday, October 26 with the annual costume contests for both adults and children.
The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest provides an excuse to enjoy a weekend away from the stress and obligations of everyday life in a beautiful alpine setting. The festival takes place high in the San Bernardino mountains, approximately two hours away from the greater Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego communities.
